About Atheneum

In Memoriam

ALEXIS ACHURRA LASERNA
Dedicated to the memory of ALEXIS A. LASERNA (1972-1989) who knowingly
beforehand that he was dying met his death gracefully and courageoulsy.
He comforted his parents by telling them not to grieve because God had
some other plans for him and by quoting the Holy Bible, “The length of
days is not what  makes age honorable nor the number of years the true
measure of life.”
Alex was a model son, a loving brother, a cheerful neighbor, and a
caring friend. His peers loved him. They came in throngs in the
hospital, at the wake, and in the funeral. He was consistently a
recipient of honor certificates from La Salle Zobel while at the same
time serving as a varsity player in basketball and tennis. “Sound mind
in sound body” was his motto. He was posthumously awarded a high school
diploma in 1990 by La Salle Zobel.

The Need

The ATHENEUM was conceived in response to a great need. Well-meaning residents of Cavite City Noveleta, Kawit, Rosario, Gen. Trias, Tanza, and other nearby towns, either send their children to perceived quality schools in Metro Manila or make do with neighbourhood schools. In the first case, the rigors and travails of daily travel, tax the children’s health not only because of distance but more so because of the chaotic traffic becoming increasingly difficult each day. In addition, street and drug crimes and pollution in exceedingly congested Metro Manila are sources of parental nightmares.

Vision

Atheneum seeks to harmonize information and values formation in order to nurture a community of learners who are articulate, critical, creative, innovatiove, productive, responsible, self-directed, socially sensitive and caring.

Mission

Guided by this vision, we are committed to provide quality education by employing traditional teaching methods as well as progressive techniques. We don’t merely teach what is, who is, when or where, but more importantly, we ask why and how.

ATHENEUM HYMN

We are Amcanians
Oh this name we proudly bear
Thru triumphs and travails
We are one everyone, everytime, everywhere
The odds can not break us
We will overcome
Weld us together
Like the strongest steel.
Oh, hail to thee
Oh glorious Atheneum
Thru victory or thru defeat
Loyal we shall be
Oh, hail to thee
Whatever might be
We’re ready at thy call
Forever Atheneum..

ATHENEUM CREDO

I think therefore I am. I am therefore I can.
I am an Amcanian and proud of it.
I cherish the companionship of my fellow Amcanians because they consider
me to be upright and capable of growth and service to others.
I appreciate the efforts of the ATHENEUM in creating conditions
conducive to my development to become an articulate and critical
thinker, creative, innovative, productive, responsible, self-directed,
socially-sensitive and caring person.
I deeply respect the fine traditions of the ATHENEUM as home of medals
and land of trophies.
It’s abiding faith and focus to the ideals of excellence and quality
suffuse me with courage, hope and strength.
It’s spirit of oneness in victory or in defeat, of mutual aid and
affection, inspires and humbles me.
I will prove myself worthy of all that the ATHENEUM stands for and be a
tested and true Amcanian.
So help me God.

The Situs

ATHENEUM SCHOOL is located in between Barangays San Rafael II and San Rafael III, in Noveleta, Cavite. There are two approaches: from either the national road of San Rafael or Salcedo.

It is sufficiently away from the hustle, bustle and hazards of a national road. It is about 100 meters from Noveleta’s shoreline. It is however completely and concretely fenced to ensure restricted entrance and exit from its campus.

The continuous sea breeze gently blowing from the west, alternately with the open-field breeze from the east, north, and south, provide a very healthy climate conducive not only to learning but to teaching as well.

The site is nestled on 20,000 square meters of land, lined by narra, acacia, coconut, and umbrella trees, which aside from providing natural shades, also serve to muffle and filter with cadence the wind that turns into gentle breeze upon landing.

ATHENEUM has the biggest private parking inside campus among the private schools in Cavite.

Philosophy

ATHENEUM believes that the critical years in a human being life are from birth to six years of age, then seven to twelve and then to adolescence. During these crucial years, basic character, values, abilities, personality skills, aptitude, attitudes, and knowledge are formed. These qualities when properly guided and developed, shape the individual’s overall perspective and preparedness not only for college or university work but also for life itself. Experiences and learning that children undergo during the crucial years of life, have a lasting effect on their intellectual development as well as on the development of their social and physical skills.

ATHENEUM’s education is based on the knowledge that each child is a unique individual with his own biological makeup, interests, capabilities and ways of viewing the world. His understanding of the world maybe different from that of an adult.

His language will be developed with the acquisition of a wide vocabulary, making him capable of communicating his ideas and feelings. An Amcanian then becomes a critical thinker and a socially sensitive, self-directed, creative, responsible and caring individual.

ATHENEUM provides a safe environment where children can explore a variety of actual materials, equipment and learning experiences suitable to their level. ATHENEUM also coordinates with the child’s parents so that there is consistency in the effort of developing the child to the fullest.

The objectives of an ATHENEUM education are therefore:

1.To develop the child in all aspects – intellectual, physical, moral, social, emotional, and spiritual – so that he may be better prepared to adjust and cope with college or university work or life itself.

2.To maximize the student’s potential through a variety of carefully selected and meaningful experiences considering his uniqueness, interests and capabilities.

3. To make every Amcanian a self-propelling, thinking contributing and productive individual, able to make decisions which will prepare him for the more complex demands of future life.

The Methodology

ATHENEUM believes that the effectiveness of instruction is not a monopoly of any particular method. It depends upon the circumstances of the learner, including his age, level, parentage, neighborhood, etc. Thus, ATHENEUM combines the best features of the time-tested traditional method and the modern (typified by Montessori, LI., or tutorial). This is called the ECLECTIC Method. This serves as the base of the ATHENEUM Method where parents are also requested to participate in tracking and setting strategies for the development of the student. Thus, regular dialogues are scheduled between the class adviser and the parents of the child.

ATHENEUM generally observes a teacher-to-student ratio of one teacher to every 20 pupils in Division I (Nursery-Grade 2) and one teacher to every 30 pupils or students in Divisions 2 and 3 (Grade 3-High School 4) to assure personalized  attention to each and every pupil or student, thereby maintaining the best possible quality of instruction’.

Why Partner with Us

ATHENEUM has a Board of Consultants connected with International School, U.P., Ateneo, De La Salle, Brent, Assumption, Mirriam and other schools generally accepted as the quality schools in the country. The ATHENEUM Board meets with consultants regularly to avail of their expertise on specific issues affecting the quality of ATHENEUM.

ATHENEUM will also develop linkages in Europe and U.S.A. where exchange programs will be explored and harnessed to continuously upgrade faculty, facilities, and studentry.

ATHENEUM parents are our PARTNERS in the task of educating our students. We operate on open door policy and welcome your questions and suggestions for the best interests of the students.

A Tradition of Excellence

Even before the advent of K-12, Atheneum High School required Biology 2, Chemistry 2, Physics 2, College Algebra, Calculus and Logic, thus providing competitive advantage to our students.

Atheneum’s policy of competitive advantage will certainly be pursued and sustained even with the K-12. In other words Atheneum will require and make available more than K-12.

The Atheneum Advantage

The thrust of ATHENEUM is to always provide its pupils and students an advantage over their counterparts in other schools. This is done by a system of advanced lessons from level to level. Thus, our Grade One pupils know more than their peers in other schools.

The Atheneum Advantage is demonstrated in many ways such as advance placements in US and Canadian schools where Amcanians are placed one level higher than the norm. For example, a pupil who completed his Grade 2 at the Atheneum was placed at Grade 4 in the USE, thereby bypassing one level (Grade 3). Similar cases were reported by grateful parents in Canada and elsewhere.

Eight out of ten Amcanians are accepted either by UP, Ateneo, or La Salle where the national admission ratio is one of ten applicants.

The Atheneum Faculty

Atheneum has an outstanding faculty composed of graduates from distinguish universities such as UP, Ateneo, La Salle and honor students from universities and colleges.

Faculty members constantly undergo trainings and seminars conducted by specialist in education mostly by Ateneo de Manila University and La Salle University making them equipped with the latest teaching methods.

In tune with Atheneum’s desire to incorporate information with holistic formation, its educators try to mold their students not only as competent individuals with technical skills, but also as critical thinkers.

The Management Team

Atheneum is managed by Atheneum Educators, Inc, a non-stock corporation founded bu reputable education from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo and De La Salle. Being  non-stock. Atheneum is prohibited by law to distribute dividends to its incorporators, trustees or officers. Thus whatever net income is realized, will be used to sustain and continuously upgrade Atheneum in terms of faculty and facilities.
